Posture
A tree stands tall, radiating stability as it grows upward. The Vrikshasana yoga pose embodies this process, which is why it's called Vrikshasana.
Pre-position
Begin in a standing position.
Procedure
- Exhale and inhale as you raise both arms above your head from the sides, joining your palms at the top.
- Lift your heels, stand on your toes, and elevate your entire body while maintaining steady, rhythmic breathing.
Position
Stretch your whole body upward from heels to fingertips, excluding the toes. Extend your hands as high as possible. The more you stretch, the better you can maintain balance. Keep your legs stable and envision yourself being gently pulled upward by an unseen force. As you hold this asana, continue your smooth breath and focus your gaze and mind without distractions to maintain balance.
Releasing
- Inhale and, as you exhale, slowly lower both hands down from the sides.
- Lower your heels to the floor and return to a standing position.
Duration
As this asana involves balance, one minute is sufficient. For specific benefits, consider extending the duration to three minutes.
Internal Effects
Vrikshasana stretches your muscles in one direction and then allows them to relax. This process helps alleviate muscle strains and provides relaxation, even for strains caused by other asanas.
Precaution
While this asana is straightforward, it's essential to maintain your balance when stretching your body upward. Be attentive to your posture and equilibrium. Focus on maintaining balance during the upward stretch.
