Site rotation is a system of choosing injection sites in a pattern that will help you choose different sites each time you inject. This helps prevent problems. that could develop from repeated injections in the same area, and will help you avoid using a spot that might still be tender from a recent injection. Choose a pattern that is easy for you to remember and best suits the number of injections you need and your body size. The rotation pattern suggested here is only one of many possibilities.
The site rotation system described here is for people who inject once a day.
Choose one of the areas shown in the illustration. Inject in this area for one week, moving to different site within the area for each injection. The injections should be about 1'/2 inches,or one knuckle's length apart. For the following week, move. to a new area of the body and choose a new site in that area for each injection.
Some people who inject twice a day choose an area on the left side of the body for their morning injection and the corresponding area on the right side for their second injection later in the day.lf you inject more than once a day, discuss site rotation with your doctor or nurse to design the rotation pattern best suited to your needs.
Keep a record of where you give each injection. Mark the date or an 'x' on the body map at the site you used.
Checking for problems
By using a site rotation pattern, you will minimize the chance of any problem at your injection site While problems are possible, they are not usually serious. But to make sure, check your injection areas every few days.Press gently and run your finger tips or palm across each of the areas. If you feel lumps, firm knots or shallow depressions or feel pain or notice a change of colour at any injection sites, report them to your doctor or nurse and avoid using these areas until the condition disappears. Remember to use your site rotation pattern each day. Keep' a record of your injection sites, check your injection sites and be sure to report any problems to your doctor or nurse.
