Preparing for Whole-Body Reiki
Given that a disease or disorder in one area can have repercussions throughout the entire body, Reiki is best applied holistically to cleanse and revitalize the entire system.
Applying Reiki is a deeply ritualistic and ceremonial process. Many practitioners follow a specific routine before commencing a whole-body treatment regimen. Here, we outline the key elements of this preparation:
Removing Jewelry
Jewelry often includes items like semi-precious or precious stones, metal rings or chains, leather thongs, and various other objects. Many of these items can attract energies that might interfere with the life energy of Reiki. Objects such as watches create a closed circuit that can impede the flow of life energy. Earrings, in particular, can pose a problem as pierced ears can disrupt the flow of energy. This is especially significant in therapies like acupuncture, which utilizes meridians that require unobstructed pathways.
Washing Hands
Hand washing serves two purposes. Firstly, there is the physical aspect of cleanliness. Clean hands enhance the experience for the recipient of Reiki, as hot and sticky hands are not conducive to the state of relaxation sought during the session.
The second benefit relates to the aura that envelops the body. This aura can be influenced by contact with various objects and people throughout the day. Hand washing helps remove such external influences that may, especially in sensitive individuals, have adverse effects.
Saying a Prayer
At this stage, it is beneficial to recite a brief prayer, seeking healing, and focusing on your intentions, self-perception, as well as those of the person for whom you will be performing Reiki. This prayer readies you to enter the relaxation process.
