In the event of a Needle Stick / Sharp Injury to Health Care Workers during the Care and Treatment of a suspected HIV / AIDS Patient, Post Exposure Prophylaxis should be recommended to protect them from HIV Infection.
The following Drugs are exclusively used for Post Exposure Prophylaxis and are supported by the Government of India:
Detailed Guidelines have been issued to All State AIDS Control Societies for further dissemination to all Hospitals in Public, Private, and Voluntary Sectors. The Government of India has allocated funds to All State AIDS Control Societies for this purpose with the directive that the above Drugs should be made available in all Government Hospitals admitting patients with HIV / AIDS.
